The 2010 Sony World Photography Awards

The 2010 Sony World Photography Awards (SWPA) ceremony recognized some of the finest talent spanning a vast range of categories in Professional and Amateur photography. The program is one of the largest and prestigious photographic award programs in the world today. This year the photographs were celebrated at The World Photography Festival all throughout the glamorous and serene city of Cannes, France.

Element Domes provided a 20’ and 36’ dome used to promote Sony’s involvement in football and photography by showing their technology and cameras. There were over 36,000 total visitors at the festival, some of which included 11 world class street footballers, basketballers, dancers, a DJ and beat boxer, and 15 hostesses.

The SWPA is one of the most influential and internationally respected competitions of it’s kind. We were proud to support today’s most innovative creative talents, by providing our domes. The domes themselves contributed to the all around creativity of this stunning event.

Edinburgh Christmas Festival

Element domes provided a perfect venue for the Edinburgh Christmas festival in what can only be described as extremely festive conditions! With one of the coldest winters on record and snow falling for what seemed like months, the domes provided a haven in which the festive fun could take place. Creating a domeplex with two 36ft domes and a 20ft alongside, the domes contained a cafe, activity area and a Santas grotto with story telling throughout. Even with two foot of snow on the roof, the domes provided a safe and warm environment which far exceeded the clients needs.

The Prius Domeplex

The company Ignition specialize in delivering innovative learning and experiential solutions. With that in mind they came up with a truly unique experience using element domes to create a series of interconnected geodesic domes. the element domes team worked closely with ignition to form the Prius Domeplex; a stunning organic shape designed to showcase the new vehicle and play host to attendees in a remarkable space. Light, airy and utterly unique, the Domeplex featured a central 60ft diameter dome to welcome visitors, display the new car and also act as the focal area for refreshments, whilst 3 further 36ft diameter domes acted as dedicated spaces to inform, explain and communicate Prius’ USPs. St. Davids 2 shopping complex Christmas dome

The new shopping centre in Cardiff, St. Davids 2 used element domes to showcase its reindeers in the christmas build up. Using a 36ft dome to house 10 reindeers, the events team created a snow scape pen in which the public could come and experience the animals close up. The dome was placed right in the heart of cardiff and stopped people in their tracks as they entered into the new complex. Overall the clients were extremely happy and stated that the effect was perfect for the venue, location and purpose of the event.

After the success of element domes involvement with ignition in the launch of toyotas new prius, Sky has jumped onboard for the next event this year. Presented by Davina Mc Call, GOT TO DANCE will kick off with a series of nationwide auditions for dancers of all styles, shapes and sizes. Using one of our largest and most breathtaking domes, the 90ft, live audiences will be able to watch the auditions take place. With two other breakaway 36ft domes attached, the dancers can relax before entering onto the mail stage. From the auditions, an expert panel will select dancers to take part in the spectacular studio dance extravaganzas, where they will hope to progress to the live final and be crowned series champions by the viewing public. GOT TO DANCE will begin on Sky1 and Sky1 HD in January 2010.
